inexplicit letters from the universe

With a heavy focus on materials, through sculpture, vibrant colors synesthetically express the way inner feelings warp and twist into crocheted figures. Each representing a different moment in time and the unknowing experienced during vehemence.

The way you first interact with a piece is how your brain will categorize how it makes you feel; It’s the backdrop to the work's legibility. The space the work takes up and where it's installed can play a crucial role in how it can evoke emotion. Natural movement is a feature of many of Parrot’s sculptural works. The subtle shifts of the earth allow works to perform their own form of dance, giving life to the creation and allowing it to have some control of its mobility.

This sentimentality also exists during the creation process. Parrot lets the material speak for itself and often pivots her initial plan if it feels like she is making the material perform in a way antithetical to its form. Giving up control of what the end result will look like, while still following the original intent in the later steps.

As she has made work, the intuitive nature of her color switches often mimics the feelings she has at the moment. Rapidly switching colors in moments of stress and combining gauges to create an uncertain effect. In calmer, safer moments, the colors and gauges can shift more effortlessly.

Beneath the Surface: Fragments of Identity

"Beneath the Surface” is a collaborative installation that delves into the complexities of identity through an interactive journey of discovery. Using wood, water, and brick, we've crafted an environment that contrasts the stability of our physical world with the fluidity and vulnerability of human identity. Participants are invited to squat and reach beneath a clear water tank to assemble wooden puzzle pieces, an act that symbolizes the effort required to piece together the scattered aspects of ourselves.

The moving water above the puzzles represents life's constant changes, while the bricks suggest the fragile foundation upon which our identities rest. Around the tank, fragmented photographs of the artists challenge viewers to consider the incomplete nature of understanding one another through surface-level observations alone.

This piece is a call to introspection and a communal exploration of the depths that lie beneath our visible selves, emphasizing the beauty and discomfort of the journey toward self-discovery and collective understanding.
